Fly-tipping is a blight on Gloucestershire that is perpetrated by the lazy, selfish and anti-social.

And the person who dumped this mattress at the side of the A40 near Gloucester can add reckless to the list.

The light-coloured mattress is resting against the crash barrier on the westbound carriageway of the Northern Bypass.

Mattress on the A40

It is by the road just past where the road goes over Sandhurst Lane.

Motorists are used to see the odd bit of litter, or the occasional roadkill along this busy stretch of road, but a mattress is causing them to do a double take.

And there are stiff penalties for those who fly-tip.
