Coronavirus has claimed two more lives in Gloucestershire in the past 24 hours.

Figures released by Public Health England on Friday afternoon show that there have now been 207 confirmed deaths of people who had tested positive for Covid-19.

It means that two more people have died since the figures released yesterday and the data indicates both were being treated in the county's main hospitals in Cheltenham or Gloucester.

Of those who died, 178 were being treated at Gloucestershire Hospitals while 29 were being cared for through Gloucestershire Health and Care NHS Foundation Trust which runs community hospitals and mental health settings.

There has also been a sharp rise in confirmed cases in the county, up 47 to 1,315 from 1,268 - it comes as a new test centre opened today in Oxstalls to allow key workers fast access to coronavirus testing.

The MTU will be open until Monday, May 11, and based at the Oxstalls Tennis Centre, in Gloucester.

People with symptoms of Covid-19 who are key workers or over-65s can attend the site, which is run by the Department for Health and Social Care (DHSC), to be tested.

Anyone with symptoms who is in the key groups listed can log onto the website and register via the self-referral portal. If they meet the criteria, they will be issued with a unique code and will be able to select the Gloucester location, as long as appointments are available.

Across the border Herefordshire has 348 cases, Worcestershire 1,224, Wiltshire, 479 and Swindon 397 with 371 cases in South Gloucestershire.
