Johan Ackermann insists that Danny Cipriani will remain at Gloucester next season.

There has been some uncertainty over the fly-half’s future and he has been linked with a host of Premiership clubs and French clubs.

West Country rivals Bristol and Bath, along with Wasps, Sale and Harlequins, and Top 14 giants Toulon and Stade Francais are all chasing Cipriani according to The Rugby Paper.

However, Cipriani joined Gloucester on a two-year contract from Wasps last summer and Gloucester head coach Ackermann dismissed reports that he has a break clause that could see him leave at the end of the current campaign.

“I can only speak on my behalf and what I know and that is that he’s signed for next season,” said Ackermann.

“I’m not aware of any release clauses so according to me Danny is here with us for the 2019-20 season.

“And post that I’m not quite sure, that’s an ongoing process  with the club and with Danny.”

Cipriani revealed in January that he was in talks with Gloucester over a new contract and negotiations over extending his own deal are still ongoing.

Gloucester already have plans in place over their recruitment and retention of players for next season and Ackermann says they have not accounted for any potential loss of England international Cipriani.

Ackermann said: “We’ve done our recruitment already and the squad is settled and according to us when we talked about fly-half we said we’ve got Owen (Williams) and Danny settled and signed up.

“And I’ve got no other information at the moment that is different so I’m of the opinion that’s the fly-halves we’ll have available.”

Ackermann says he’s not spoken to Cipriani about his contract situation as that is being dealt with by director of rugby David Humphreys and chief executive Stephen Vaughan.

He said: “When it comes to contracting, if the club feels they need to incorporate me and bring me in then I’ll get involved but when it’s a financial decision it’s not me that must make the budget work, it’s up to the club to make that and that’s where the process is at the moment.

“It’s between Danny and the club for beyond next season.”
