The dark underworld of witches has taken over the godly realm of Gloucester Cathedral this week.

Production crews have parked trailers and filming gear on the green at the back of the world-famous cathedral for the second series of a prime time show.

Filming for Sky fantasy drama A Discovery of Witches – a show starring Matthew Goode - is taking place at the home of the tomb of King Edward II.

The show is an adaptation of the series of All Souls novels by Deborah Harkness which see a contemporary world shared between humans and a declining species of witches, vampires and daemons who hide in plain sight.

Jane Tranter and Julie Gardner – who set up the production company Bad Wolf studios – are the duo behind the show.

Production has largely been done in Wales but now the crew have arrived here for the next few days.

It means that parts of the Cathedral are off limits to the general public.
