Gloucester-trained chef Tom Kerridge has never been one to shy away from where he's from.

With his thick west-country accent and signature dishes, he has quickly become a favourite among foodies.

And now The National Restaurant Awards have included one of the restaurateurs' venues in its list of the UK's Top 100 restaurants.

Chef Tom Kerridge

Out of 100 entries, Tom Kerridge's The Hand & Flowers in Marlow Buckinghamshire was ranked the 37th best restaurant in the UK.

The list was constructed by Estrella Damm National Restaurant Awards and a panel of 200 "elite and authoritative" judges - which included food writers chefs and restaurateurs - whittled down the entries.

Members of the judging academy voted for the top seven restaurants that they had dined at in the last 12 months, weighted in order of preference and then the top 100 list was compiled.

Tom's two star Michelin starred pub The Hand and Flowers

The Estrella Damn National Restaurant Awards said: "Chef-patron Tom Kerridge's cooking is hearty and wholesome with big hitting flavours and artery clogging combinations (in a good way)."

It goes on to say: "Kerridge is a man who wears his passion for cooking on his sleeve and at The Hand & Flowers he takes gutsy pub-style dishes and gives them just enough refinement to make them feel fresh and exciting, without making them fussy.

This is food for the soul that, to use Kerridge's parlance, is 'proper lush.'"
