At the end of July this year locals were left 'shocked' by news that an iconic Gloucester pub which was popular among rugby fans had suddenly closed unexpectedly.

The Kingsholm Inn, which is also known as The Jockey, in Kingsholm Road opposite the rugby stadium - the home of Gloucester Rugby - closed back in June but now locals will be pleased to know that the pub is set to make a comeback.

A spokesperson for Ei Publican Partnership said: "We would like to reassure customers that we aim to reopen The Kingsholm Inn later this month, following the recruitment of a new publican.

"We are committed to ensuring this site remains an attractive and thriving pub at the heart of the local community, and we look forward to welcoming guests for a drink."

The shock closure of the pub also meant that Sutt's Cafe also shut up shop.

A post on their Facebook page read: "Well 3 years and 1 month will come to an end on Saturday 22nd June."

When news of the closure broke, fans took to social media to share their memories of the pub.

The neighbourhood's representative at the city council, Gloucester City Councillor Jeremy Hilton (LD, Kingsolm and Wotton)  was also left stunned by the news.

He said: "It comes as a shock.

"One would hope it's only temporary and that it will reopen. I honestly don't know the reason."
