A new store is set to open next week in Gloucester - offering customers discount on a variety of household favourites and brands.

Discount retailer One Below will open on the former Poundworld unit, Eastgate Street, Gloucester on Friday, August 16 at 10am.

The independent chain said they are: "The first discount store in the UK to sell everything for £1 and under, with numerous amazing 'get it before it's gone' one-off deals."

One Below also added they intend to open five stores in total in Gloucestershire this year, creating over 100 retail jobs for the UK retail industry.

The store in Gloucester will sell a wide range of brands, such as Coca Cola, Pedigree, Heinz, Kellogg's and Cadbury's.

Plus, it will stock many popular cleaning names such as Zoflora and The Pink Stuff - a personal favourite by social media cleaning star Mrs Hinch.

They said there will be a wide range of items across 10 departments, including groceries, home, health and beauty, baby care, toy, DIY, partyware, craft and gardening - selling over 5,000 products - retailing at £1 or less with prices starting from 29p.

One Below said: "For price-conscious shoppers looking after the pound in the pocket, One Below provides a no-nonsense approach to shopping, offering extreme value and a fresh shopping experience."

The company said many of the former Poundworld staff who lost their jobs when the old Gloucester shop went into administration in 2018 have been given employment at the brand new One Below store.

Christopher Edwards, managing director of One Below Retail Limited said: "We're very pleased to announce we are opening our first store in Gloucester on Eastgate Street.

"It's a great location and we're hoping that the store is going to go down well with shoppers looking for some great deals.

"We're offering amazing savings on big brands with many items costing less than £1. We have lots of stand-out value deals but shoppers need to be quick.

"When it's gone, it's gone."

The new brand is being independently financed and launched by father and son retail entrepreneurs, Christopher Edwards Senior and his 36-year-old son Christopher Edwards.

The successful pair were the original founders of former high street retailer Poundworld, before it was sold to American private equity conglomerate TPG Capital in 2014.
