Steam train fans across Gloucestershire are getting ready for the big one - the visit of the Flying Scotsman.

The world famous engine is heading to the county on Saturday and there are two opportunities to see it.

We've already told you almost everything you need to know about the Flying Scotsman but here's the final piece of the puzzle, the exact timings of when the train will pass various parts of the county.

The timings have only just been revealed - after threats not to publish in a bid to stop trespassers - and British Transport Police and Network Rail are urging fans to stay safe, not go near the lines and not to spoil the day for others. It comes after the last visit in 2017 was marred by delays after spectators accessed tracks near Cam and Dursley Station.

A spokesman for British Transport Police urged people to stay safe. She said: "Seeing the Flying Scotsman is an exciting event for many people and we want everyone to be able to have a great day out.

"Our priority is the safety of everyone viewing and travelling on the train, and our officers will be along the route and at stations to ensure everyone can enjoy the event without putting themselves or others in danger.

"Please remember to use safe vantage points to view and take pictures of the train, stay clear of the line, and do not risk serious injury or death by trespassing on the tracks.

"It is important to remember that the railway is an extremely hazardous environment and those caught trespassing or obstructing trains can expect to be prosecuted."

Below are the exact timings (which might be subject to some change on the day) and some safe locations along the route to watch.

Outbound

Kemble - platform 2 - 10:23

St Mary's Crossing - 10:32

Stroud - 10:37

Stonehouse - 10:41

Standish Junction - 10:44

Haresfield - 10:45

Tuffley Junction - 10:51

Gloucester Yard - 10:53 *NOTE THIS IS NOT GLOUCESTER STATION*

Barnwood Junction - 10:55

Cheltenham Spa - platform 2 - 11:03

Ashchurch - platform 1 - 11:24

Here are our suggestions of where you can see the train and keep safe:

Kemble Station: Small but perfectly formed, you might be able to spot the Scotsman puffing down the newly redoubled tracks.

Stroud Station: Watch from the station itself to frame the train against the background of the town or the car park on the far side near Hill Paul will still give a good view.

Stonehouse Station - limited parking but a new slightly longer platform should give you a decent view

Stonehouse playing fields - You'll get a view of the train running along the embankment towards Standish but from a very safe distance from the tracks.

Old Richians/ the fields off Sandyleaze - watch the engine pass the Unilever factory and pass out of the city, lots of  space here and a safe distance from the tracks.

Pirton Road bridge - a chance to watch the Scotsman fly down the Golden Valley. The wall is quite low and will allow you to see the train leaving Gloucester (or heading towards Cheltenham if you stand on the other side of the road).

Return leg

Norton junction - 16:37

Evesham - 16:49

Honeybourne - platform 2 - 16:59

Moreton-in-Marsh - platform 2 - 17:14

Ascott-under-Wychwood - platform 2 - 17:28

Here are our suggestions of where you can see the train and keep safe:

Kingham Station - Just over the Gloucestershire border, you'll be able to see the train from the bridge over the track

Moreton in Marsh - It is a tiny station, but you should be able to catch a glimpse.

The main thing if you are planning on watching the train pass through is to stay off the tracks and off private land.

Where can we send our pictures of the Flying Scotsman?

We would love to see your shots - send them to our weekend team for inclusion in any galleries or features we do.
