Mean judge Simon Cowell (‘America’s Got Talent’) just scolded 13-year-old Charlotte Summers on ‘terrible, terrible, terrible’ song choice [WATCH]

Dressed elegantly in sparkling silver, 13-year-old Charlotte Summers graced the live “America’s Got Talent” stage at the Dolby Theatre during Tuesday’s Quarterfinals 2 episode. The fan favorite took on Shirley Bassey‘s “Diamonds Are Forever,” keeping in the same old-school wheelhouse as her prior performances of “You Don’t Own Me” and “I Put A Spell On You.” Unfortunately, the “AGT” judges weren’t feeling her this time around, with mean judge Simon Cowell even calling her song choice “terrible, terrible, terrible.” Will America vote Charlotte through to the Semifinals? Watch the “AGT” performance video above, read the judges’ comments below and then make your predictions before Wednesday’s results episode.

Howie Mandel: “Well, there’s no denying your talent is so far beyond your years. That’s a James Bond theme, right? You’re like not a Bond girl, you’re a Bond child. 004. The thing is, I don’t know that I would have chosen that song. But the fact that that song was chosen, nobody could have done it better. I’m trying to pick up my jaw just from your talent. So hopefully America votes — you deserve to be here.”

Gabrielle Union: “Howie’s right, it was an older song by a grown woman who had a big voice, but you my dear stepped up and gave us such a full, dynamic voice. You have an amazing, amazing, unique talent. Way to go.”

Julianne Hough: “When we first saw you there was a camera in front so we couldn’t see you and I was just listening and I thought I was listening to Jessie J. Your voice is just so rich and full. I do have to agree, though. I feel like your personality is so dynamic and we didn’t really see that. We saw your voice and your capability, but the personality of who you are, which we love, I don’t think shined as much.”

Simon Cowell: “Well look, as Julianne said, you have one of the best personalities of all the contestants we have this year. You really, really do. Your body language right now is telling us everything I know you are feeling and I am feeling right now, is that that was a terrible, terrible, terrible song choice for you. It really was. And you know, Charlotte, by the way, I hate saying this to you, I’m aware of how young you are. I’m really praying that the audience dismisses the song choice now — that wasn’t your fault — remembers what a great person you are, what a great singer you are, and how much better we could advise you if you make it through to the next round of the competition. Because America, this audience, is very forgiving. We’re not gonna judge you on the song. In fact, I’m gonna pretend that song never even existed and I’m only gonna remember you from what I saw before. It’s not your fault.”

In his “AGT” live blog, our recapper John Benutty had this to say about the live performance: “First to perform tonight was Charlotte Summers. She opened the show with a high drama rendition of ‘Diamonds Are Forever’ by Shirley Bassey. Her voice was controlled and boomed through a number of big notes though her stage presence was a bit subdued. The judges felt like her ‘dynamic personality’ didn’t shine tonight despite the vocal being a powerhouse. For Simon it just came down to a ‘terrible, terrible, terrible’ song choice for her.”
