GoLocalProv.com News Editor Kate Nagle was the guest speaker at the Providence League of Women Voters Annual Meeting this week, where she joined members to discuss media — and politics.

The meeting, which took place at League member Liz Head’s home in Providence, was attended by about two dozen members.

“I appreciate being able to join members of the League and hear more about the organization and their interests and concerns, and share with them where GoLocalProv is, in terms of coverage and growth,” said Nagle.

The League of Women Voters Providence is one of the oldest chapters in the country, chartering in 1919, one year before the national organization.

In 2019, the League hosted such forums as “Government: How the Game is Played” to “Impeachment, Recall, and Removal: How can an elected official, on the local or national stage, be removed from office?”

"The Providence League was growing more concerned as the Providence Journal shrunk: who would cover local news? The cornerstone of democracy is transparency; we need reporters. So we were thrilled to host Kate Nagle from GoLocalProv, which is casting a spotlight on Rhode Island government," said Joan Retsinas of the League of Women Voters.

“GoLocal focuses on breaking the biggest stories that matter to Rhode Islanders,” said Nagle. “Whether it’s being first to report on the collapse of the St. Joseph’s pension fund and continuing to share the latest updates, to covering in-depth the implications of the biggest healthcare issue in the state when Partners HealthCare looked at — and pulled out of — acquiring Care New England, GoLocal reports the news that matter to Rhode Islanders first.”

“And we’re fortunate to have such a deep team of columnists and analysts, from former Providence Journal editorial page editor Bob Whitcomb and environmental writer Scott Turner to political experts including Rob Horowitz and Jennifer Lawless, to GoLocal LIVE regulars Ray Rickman and Gary Sasse, we’re able to provide a break-down of what matters to readers and viewers in a timely and comprehensive matter,” said Nagle. “Our year-over-year growth has been tremendous and we look forward to continuing to be the go-to news source here in the state.”
