SAN ANGELO — A graduate and former teacher at Lake View High School was indicted on charges he had an improper relationship with a student, according to court documents.

A grand jury last month indicted Matthew Christopher Hummingbird on charges he "intentionally and knowingly engaged in sexual contact or sexual intercourse, or deviant sexual intercourse" with a student who was enrolled at Lake View High School in January 2017, records state.

This is not the first charge alleging Hummingbird had an improper relationship with a student.

In October 2018, the Big Lake Wildcat reported Hummingbird had been charged with an improper relationship in Reagan County.

Hummingbird, 26, taught math and was a coach at Reagan County Middle School the 2017-18 school year, according to the Wildcat, and was a history teacher and assistant basketball coach at Lake View during the 2016-17 school year.

Hummingbird was arrested by Reagan County deputies Oct. 4, 2018 in Kermit, where he was working as junior high math teacher and coach at Kermit ISD, the Wildcat reports.

The first charge involves a Big Lake student, who, in an interview with a Reagan County investigator, said they had sex with the teacher twice between January and March 2018, the Wildcat reports, citing an arrest warrant affidavit.

Hummingbird could face two to 20 years in prison on the second-degree felony charges if found guilty.
