$2M in federal student support grants awarded to North Dakota colleges, universities

Federal grants meant to support students are on their way to five colleges and universities in North Dakota.

The U.S. Department of Education has awarded Student Support Services (SSS) funds, which total more than $2 million, to support schools throughout North Dakota, according to a press release from Sen. John Hoeven's office said Thursday, Aug. 6.

“These grants will support five North Dakota colleges and universities in their efforts to help first-generation, low-income and students with disabilities successfully complete their coursework and graduate,” Hoeven said in a statement.

Student Support Services funding also may be used to provide grant aid to those receiving Federal Pell Grant scholarships.

The grants were allocated as follows:

-- North Dakota State University – $503,470

-- UND – $400,192

-- University of Mary, Bismarck – $335,110

-- Lake Region State College – $294,716

-- Minot State University – $261,888 for Student Support Services and $261,888 for Disabled Students
