Blades' late homer boosts Rustlers to split with Helena schools

HELENA – Kendal Blades snapped a 5-5 tie with a two-run homer in the top of the seventh inning, boosting C.M. Russell to a 7-5 win over Helena Capital to salvage a split of the Rustlers' sploit doubleheader with the Capital City schools Thursday.

Helena hurlers Mariah English and Tyleigh Burchard combined to hold CMR to just seven scattered singles and two runs as the Bengals won the opener over the Rustlers 4-2.

Lefthander Madi Moore took the loss against the Bengals, despite striking out 12 batters in six innings.she also gave up four hits, six walks, and two hit batters.

Teagan Taylor went the distance and picked up the win for CMR mostly by pitching to contact. She fanned two, walked three and gave up eight hits.

The Rustlers will have their home openers against the Kalispell schools on Saturday at Multi Sports. Flathead will go first at noon, followed by Glacier at 2.
