A 13-year-old Windsor boy has been identified by Weld County Coroner Carl Blesch as the apparent drowning victim after his canoe capsized on a lake in Windsor.
Mason Mages was canoeing with his younger brother on Water Valley Lake in a Windsor subdivision Thursday afternoon when a sudden and strong gust of wind overturned the craft, according to Blesch.
The brother, whose name and age were not identified, reached the shore, but Mason Mages was not able to remain afloat.
His body was recovered Thursday night from the lake by a dive team, according to Windsor Severance Fire Rescue Department spokesman Todd Vess.
Blesch said the final manner and cause of death will be officially determined after completion of autopsy and laboratory reports.
