West Ham joint-owner David Sullivan has rubbished reports suggesting he is hoping to complete a takeover of Hellas Verona, Claret & Hugh reports.

Italian media outlet L’Arena recently ran a report claiming that Sullivan was interested in taking over Hellas Verona. The report added that Sullivan had visited Verona and held initials talks with the club hoping to secure a stadium deal at the same time.

Hellas Verona play in Serie A – Italy’s top-flight – after winning promotion last season. The club is on the right track and it could be an exciting opportunity. But Sullivan has told Claret & Hugh that he is not interested in this takeover.

In an interview with Claret & Hugh, Sullivan said: “There’s not even 1% truth in it. I have not been to Verona in my life and not been to Italy for years. You wonder where these stories come from!

“I normally no longer speak to the media as I know supporters prefer that, BUT as this report might have worried some I have decided to clarify the situation by speaking exclusively with CandH.”

West Ham fans would have been concerned if Sullivan bought a second club. Owning two clubs could affect the future transfer budgets offered by Sullivan. But these concerns have been put to bed as the co-owner denies these reports.
