THE mayor of Winchester was on hand to officially open a new children’s play area earlier last weekend.
Cllr Frank Pearson was joined by the city council’s mascot, Wonky the Woodpecker, when he officially opened the upgraded park in Winnall Manor Road.
The ‘knight and castle’ themed play area, which cost £120,000, is part of the Wonky Trail – a series of routes taking children to play areas across the district.
Families at the event were offered free refreshments, and children were given cupcakes, colouring activities and goody bags, provided by the play area company, Wicksteed Leisure.
The city council’s Sport and Physical Activity Team were also at the opening to provide attendees with sporting tasks and games.
