A WINCHESTER cycling club is looking to expand its yearly event programme following an influx of members.

Velo Club Venta has seen a 250% increase in children under 16 signing up, and an 150% inflation in women joining since 2016.

Chairman, Crispin Quail, said: "We are really pleased to see the recent growth in the club membership and there seems to be no sign of it slowing.

"In 2018 we worked hard to broaden the appeal of our rides and activities to attract a more diverse membership, so it is especially pleasing to these groups thriving."

The club runs a racing scene year-round for all ages with a programme of weekly road rides, and the opportunity for members to practice in racing teams, time trials, cyclo-cross and mountain biking is provided.

The race teams last year reached an all-time high when competing at regional and national level.

Crispin added: "VC Venta is particularly proud of its racing heritage and it’s very exciting to see so many young riders getting involved and experiencing success.

"We are pleased to be able to support these teams by providing equipment and race kit with the help of our sponsors and local grants."
