WINCHESTER Cathedral Girl Choristers past and present joined forces last weekend for a special evensong to celebrate their 20th anniversary.

The amassed choir included more than 50 girls, both new and old, including several members from the original choir and eighteen current Girl Choristers.

Sophie Burford, one of the original Girl Choristers, said: “It’s rare for a 12-year-old girl to have such a life-changing experience at such a young age.

“The choir changed my life both in the present and for the future. We shared laughter and tears together and I feel this helped shape us into the women we are.”

The choir formed in 1998, and every year is made up of 20 girls aged between 12 and 17, all from schools in the Winchester and Hampshire areas.

Visitors can hear them singing a weekly Sunday service during term time, at services and concerts at Easter and Christmas, and on tours, recordings and broadcasts.
