RUNNING or walking 10 kilometres in your own living room seems a strange thing to do, but these are strange times.

Trinity Winchester homeless charity is asking if you could run or walk 10km in your own home to support their emergency appeal to help vulnerable people affected by coronavirus.

On Saturday May 16 at 10.30am, teams of people from across Winchester will be donning their trainers, or possibly slippers, to cover 10km of distance in their own homes.

Local resident, John Tippett-Cooper, lawyer and Head of Corporate Social Responsibility at Capsticks Solicitors is looking to complete the challenge with a group of co-workers from the firm’s Winchester office despite a couple of key obstacles: “I have a one-year-old and a three-year-old who are finding it quite funny that I am doing hundreds of laps back and forth in the living room.

“We’ve got a team of five of us from Capsticks who are going to Zoom-call each other for mutual support during the run. It’ll be tricky, but seeing the efforts of people like Captain Tom Moore have inspired us.

“We’re very happy to be doing something to support the amazing work that Trinity Winchester do every day supporting some of the most vulnerable people in the area at this hardest of times”.

“Anyone can join in the at home run or walk, Trinity Winchester will be sending out messages of from 10.30am and there’s really no right way or wrong way to complete the 10km, as long as it’s in your home!”

Trinity Winchester homeless charities’ big fundraiser, the Big Sleep Out, which was scheduled for tomorrow, Friday May 15 in the Cathedral Close has been postponed due to the current coronavirus pandemic.

Like many charities across the UK, Trinity Winchester is looking at novel ways of fundraising to fill huge gaps in their budgets caused by the impact of coronavirus.

Trinity have suggested a number of ideas for virtual fundraising to help them raise funds for their vital service: http://trinitywinchester.org.uk/virtual-fundraising/.
