FUNDRAISERS are staging a JOGLE – John O'Groats to Land's End and back – to raise badly-needed funds.

Sponsored by IVC of Alresford, the event will start on May 25 and run for two weeks in aid of Home-Start Winchester. The brainchild of senior coordinator Liz Stannard, the charity's trustee, volunteers and families will need to complete 2,000 miles in 14 days.

Liz said: "Due to the Covid-19 crisis all our fundraising events have had to be cancelled and we need to find other ways to pile on the pounds."

She added that she will be putting in the miles on foot while husband Tim, son Seb and daughter Mollie will be cycling on Hampshire's roads.

Meanwhile son Ben, who is in the Royal Marines, will be taking part at his military base.

"We are asking people to get involved in any way they can – ride their bike, pound the streets or their treadmill, waddle round the garden or toddle round the park with the pushchair, but whatever distance they choose to help us reach our 2,000 mile target will be their personal challenge," added Liz.

The challenge can be split into small sections and participants can contribute as far as they feel possible to the total distance.

Also getting on two wheels is John Cooper who uses a static bike as part of his rehab regime after a life-changing stroke in 2019. John is no stranger to fundraising for Home-Start having taken part in the London to Paris bike ride in 2011 for the charity.

He is married to Home-Start Winchester chairman Liz Cooper, who said: "Whilst John has made a good recovery from his stroke in June, his mileage will be considerably different from his previous cycling challenges.

"His target is 50 miles during the fortnight in half hour sessions although he hopes he will better this."

Those interested can register by emailing: liz.stannard@home-startwinchester.org.uk. Ms Stannard said: "We will keep everyone informed of the key milestones along the way. Please spread the word far and wide and ask your friends to join in by taking a hike, riding a bike or walking round the garden like Captain Tom.

"Whatever your age you can do something and please send us photos of you or your family in action."
