Naomi Campbell has defended Meghan Markle over her abuse by the press in a new interview.
Speaking to the Guardian, the 49-year-old supermodel backed the Duchess of Sussex's decision to sue a UK tabloid newspaper following her own wars with the paper.
"I don’t know how Meghan Markle deals with this and I’m really glad she’s taken action to defend herself," said Campbell.
In October, the Duchess, 38, began legal proceedings against the Mail On Sunday over the alleged misuse of private information, infringement of copyright and breach of the Data Protection Act 2018.
The claim came after the newspaper published a handwritten letter from Meghan to her father, allegedly omitting parts of the letter - something the Duchess claims was done to support its "negative" portrayal of her.
“When I heard [she was taking legal action], I was like ‘Bravo. Good for her,'" says Campbell.
The model has had her own dealings with the national newspaper, calling a recent article about her "character assassination".
Earlier this year, it was announced the supermodel would be honoured by the British Fashion Council for her contribution to the fashion industry, as well as her philanthropic work on Fashion For Relief, an organisation that raises money for environmental and humanitarian causes.
What followed was an article by the paper delving into her past, describing her as “something of a drama queen, notorious for hurling jewel-encrusted phones and raging at her staff” with “four convictions of assault to her name”.
The article also addressed her links to disgraced sexual predators Harvey Weinstein and Jeffrey Epstein, both of whom she has been photographed with.
In response, Campbell posted a blistering interview on her YouTube channel in which she called out the paper.
“I’ve met thousands of people at events and been photographed with them – there are pictures of me with everyone. Are you going to single me out, when there are hundreds of people pictured with the same people, who you don’t care to mention?," she emphasised to the Guardian. “Do me a f***ing favour. I won’t sit there and roll over and take that sh*t."
She added: "We all know what that’s about… I’ve seen how they treat Raheem Sterling, how they speak about Lewis Hamilton and Serena Williams. I don’t know how Meghan Markle deals with this and I’m really glad she’s taken action to defend herself.”
Campbell said she hasn't met the Duchess yet “and I don’t have plans to”.
This week the model announced she was opening a pop-up store from 27 November until 8 December raising money for her charity, Fashion For Relief. The shop will stock bespoke and limited-edition pieces donated by the global fashion brands, the supermodel's celebrity friends, as well as items from her own wardrobe.
