America’s First Network Credit Union, which has been headquartered in Trumbull since 1989, is now officially an East Hartford-based institution.
America’s First won approval from the state Department of Banking last month to relocate its home office to 92 Pitkin St., where the credit union has been operating a full-service branch since acquiring the former East Hartford Federal Credit Union in 2017.
The specific reasons for the move weren’t immediately clear. AFNCU CEO Nick Moalli could not be reached for comment Wednesday morning.
There are no new hires planned with the move, which comes on the heels of another location-related change for America’s First. It recently applied for permission to move its former home office, at 50 Commerce Drive in Trumbull, across the street to 45 Commerce Drive.
In all, America’s First has five Connecticut offices. A sixth, in Danbury, is accessible only to Cartus employees. It also has an Arkansas branch that dates back to the 1970s, when America’s First was based in Clinton and named Chesebrough-Pond’s Federal Credit Union. At the time, it served employees who worked at a large Clinton factory operated by the company, which manufactured Vaseline and facial cream.
Chesebrough-Pond’s was acquired by Unilever in the mid-1980s, at which point the credit union changed its name to Personal Care America Federal Credit Union. It adopted its current name in 2016, when it converted to a state charter.
America’s First reports $35.5 million in total assets and 4,939 members.
