BOSTON — The Hartford volleyball team took home two more weekly awards from the America East on Tuesday, as junior
Megan Anderson was named the Setter of the Week and freshman
Maddie Lindsay was tabbed the Rookie of the Week.
The duo helped lead Hartford to a 1-1 record last week. The Hawks extended their season-best winning streak to six matches with a 3-1 win on Friday, before coming up short to UAlbany, 3-0, in a battle for first place on Sunday.
With the pair of weekly honors, the Hawks push their season total to 15, the most of any team in the America East. Anderson and Lindsay have earned weekly recognition four and six times, respectively, while senior middle blocker
Jenna Bridges has been tabbed the Player of the Week five times.
Anderson had another stellar week directing a Hartford offense that ranks No. 1 in the league in hitting percentage (.252), assists per set (11.78) and kills per set (13.04). She dished out 12.57 assists per set, with 57 of her 88 helpers coming against UMBC on Friday. In addition, Anderson added eight blocks, including five against the Retrievers.
A native of Orono, Minn., Anderson enters the week ranked No. 1 in the America East with 10.41 assists per set, while her 0.39 service aces per set rank No. 2.
A native of Lehi, Utah, Lindsay averaged 3.57 kills per set to earn Rookie of the Week honors for the sixth straight week. She totaled 25 kills on the week, including 19 in Friday's win against the Retrievers. Lindsay has been one of the most dominant freshmen in the league, ranking No. 3 in kills per set (3.52) and No. 3 in points per set (4.04).
Lindsay's six Rookie of the Week awards are the most by an America East player since UMBC's Alyssa Lang earned the honor eight times in 2008.
Already matching last season's win total with an 11-8 overall record, the Hawks have two matches on the docket this week. Hartford hits the road for a Friday night tilt at New Hampshire (7 p.m.), before it steps out of America East action to play host to in-state foe Sacred Heart on Sunday (6 p.m.).
