Historic Westport home damaged in fire

A historic Westport home at 625 Sanford Road was damaged in a fire on Monday, June 1.

WESTPORT -- A historical house in Westport was damaged in a fire Monday afternoon. No injuries were reported.

About 3:13 p.m. on Monday, the Westport Fire Department received a report of a structure fire at 625 Sanford Road.

"The first arriving personnel reported smoke and fire coming from the rear of the structure," a press release from the Westport Fire Department states. The home is a single-family residence and is listed as a historical house, built in the 1800s.

"The fire was under control within 45 minutes but cased substantial damage to the exterior and attic area of the structure," the release states.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. The fire caused about a $50,000 loss to the building and contents.

Westport responded with three engines and was assisted by Dartmouth District 3, Tiverton, & Little Compton Fire Departments at the scene.
