WHEN the Christmas lights are switched on across the county it feels as if the festive season has well and truly started.

Here is a list of all of the switch-on events in Hereford and the market towns in Herefordshire.

Saturday, November 17: Bromyard Christmas Lights switch-on day. A Christmas Fayre from 10.30am to 3.30pm. Edgar Whiteley, 80, will be the guest of honour for the switch-on at 5pm in the town's square. The town's car parks will be free of charge on the day, while carols, stalls, and a Father Christmas parade will also take place.

The Old Market Shopping Centre in Hereford will switch their lights on at 5.30pm. Maylord Orchard lights will be switched on at 5pm.

Sunday, November 18: Hereford Christmas Lights Switch-On. Live music and entertainment will start at 3pm in High Town before the lights are switched on at 5pm by Liberty X.

Friday, November 23: Hay-on-Wye Christmas Lights The Big Switch On at the Cheese Market/ Memorial Carpark.

5pm to 7.30pm (lights switch-on at approximately 6pm). See Hay transformed into a winter wonderland brimming with festive cheer.

Saturday, November 24: Ledbury Christmas Lights Switch On. There will be entertainment at the Market House from 3pm. The day will culminate with the lights being switched on at 5.15pm. There is free parking all day in the town’s car parks.

Leominster Christmas Light Switch On. A small fair starts in Corn Square at midday. There is an advent service at Priory Church at 4pm. The lights will be switched on in Corn Square at 5.30pm and at 6pm there is a Narnia Extravaganza at the Tourist Information Centre.

Sunday, November 25: The Christmas lights will be switched on and there will be the annual Christmas fayre in Ross-on-Wye. The fayre is open from 11am to 5pm with 40 stalls including The Beefy Boys. There will be Father Christmas in his grotto. Lights switch on at 4pm at the Market House with singing around the town Christmas tree with Ross Town Band.

Kington Town Council and Kington Chamber of Trade provide lights for the town but they do not have an official switch-on event.
