O2 customers in Herefordshire are among the 32 million people around the country who are today experiencing problems with the network's 4G and data services, with the website downdetector.uk showing a sudden spike in service issues reported between 5am and 9am this morning.
The problems with the network, which also acts as a carrier for several other companies including Tesco Mobile, GiffGaff, Lyca Mobile and Sky Mobile, are having wide ranging implications even for non-customers, with the outage affecting many services that use the network.
Thousands have taken to social media to vent their frustrations, with services across the country ranging from Transport for London's electronic bus stop timetables to mobile card readers relying on the network.
In an online statement, O2 said: "We are aware our customers are unable to use data this morning. One of our 3rd party suppliers has identified a software issue in their system. Our technical teams are working extremely hard to resolve this."
