A FLOOD alert is in force for the River Teme this morning.

The Flood Information Service is warning residents living near to the Herefordshire/Shropshire border to be prepared for the possibility of flooding.

River levels are forecast to rise at the Onibury river gauge as a result of heavy rainfall yesterday and further forecasted heavy rainfall today.

Consequently, flooding of roads and farmland is possible from Tuesday afternoon until Wednesday.

Further bands of heavy rainfall are forecasted until June 13, and river levels are expected to begin rising this afternoon.

The Environment Agency are closely monitoring the situation. Incident response staff are clearing weed screens and checking defences.

Pedestrians are advised to avoid using low lying footpaths near local watercourses and see the GOV.UK website for a 5 day flood forecast.
