TWO people, including an elderly woman, have been treated for "potentially serious injuries" after a head-on car crash which closed the A465 south of Hereford.

West Midlands Ambulance Service (WMAS) said they were called at 2.16pm to reports of a crash between and Skoda and Audi close to Lock's Garage at Allensmore.

A WMAS spokesperson said one elderly woman, who was driving one of the cars, was assisted out of the vehicle and treated for potentially serious injuries.

A passenger in one of the cars was also treated for potentially serious injuries as both cars had front-end damage.

Both have been taken to Hereford County Hospital by land ambulance.

WMAS said one ambulance, one paramedic officer, two doctors and the Midlands Air Ambulance from Strensham were at the scene at the junction of the A465 and the B4348.

West Mercia Police are advising drivers to use alternative routes as the road is likely to be closed for some time.

The road reopened just before 6pm.
