A DRINK-driver crashed his car after a Friday night trip to the pub, a court has heard.

Martin Glover, of the Callow, Herefordshire, admitted driving under the influence of alcohol when he appeared before magistrates in Hereford.

Nicola Ritchie, prosecuting, said police were called to a report of a single car crash on the C1228 near Tram Inn at 9pm on May 3.

The white Nissan NV200 belonging to Glover had left the road before coming to rest in a hedge.

It was spotted by a passer-by, who stopped and found 58-year-old Glover in the vehicle.

Glover then got out of his vehicle and left the scene.

Police came across a 'very intoxicated' Glover walking unsteadily away from the crash.

He was arrested after becoming abusive and refusing to give a breath sample to officers.

A blood sample taken while in custody revealed Glover had 128mg of alcohol in 100ml of blood. The legal limit is 80mg.

Emma Thorne, for Glover, told the court that he was deeply ashamed of his actions and had being going through a 'blip' when he committed the offence.

"He tells me he is going through a separation and finds himself very depressed," Mrs Thorne said.

"He had been to the Three Horseshoes pub after drinking a pint earlier on, and he drank two more pints there."

Mrs Thorne said Glover had believed he would be able to drive, but had lost control of the vehicle after experiencing a sudden pain in his leg.

Magistrates banned Glover from driving for 14 months. He was fined £120 and must pay costs of £85 and a £30 victim surcharge.
