HEREFORD Rowing Club hosted 250 rowers from across the country for their annual regatta on the River Wye.

A total of 20 clubs took part in the two-day event with Hereford RC, Hereford Cathedral School and Ross RC flying the home flag by taking a host of victories.

The City of Bristol brought the largest contingent of 44 crews, winning 15 events in total.

Despite putting up a smaller number of crew the Herefordshire clubs faired exceptionally well.

Hereford RC won five events on the Saturday starting with the Open Coxed Eight.

The home crew of Alfie Young, Mark Weaver, William Fraser, Nigel Fraser, Jason Lee, Gideon Bramble, George Fraser and Sebastien Dixon coxed by Lucy Meredith beat Swansea University RC.

Jake Birch, aged 14, showed his talent in the Open J15 Single Sculls beating his opponent of AB Severn Boat Club.

Hereford RC were also successful in the Women's Coxed Quad.

Kelly Adcocks, Nicola Halliwell, Leah Smith and Rebekah Lashley-Hancock were coxed by Maisey Wynter as they beat Avon County RC.

Meanwhile Beth Weaver, aged 13, continued to shine by winning the Women's J14 Single Sculls.

An all Herefordshire race in the Women's Masters E category saw Ross RC beat Hereford RC on the River Wye with a team of Christine Crowhurst, Nicola Wild. Geraldine Calcraft and Pamela Ball.

Finally in Saturday's races Polly Shorrock, of Hereford Cathedral School, won the Women's J16 Single Sculls.

Sunday's proceedings began with a special event for Visually Impaired rowers.

Brandon Hulcoop, an A-Level student at the Royal National College for the Blind, competed with Guy Williams in a Hereford double against Mark Sanders from Stratford Upon Avon, who rowed with Laura Mansfield from HRC.

Honours were even with both boats winning one race each.

Hereford Cathedral School started the second day in fine form with William Sykes beating his Ross RC opponent in the Open J17 Single sculls.

An all Cathedral School final of the Open J14 Coxed Quad saw a team of Jack Helme, Thomas Pizii, Alfred Sudall and William Morgan-Jones coxed by Isabelle Cripps take victory.

Pizii was also successful in the Open J16 Single Sculls event beating a Ross RC competitor in the final.

Ross RC hit form on the Sunday and ran away with a host of events.

The Women's J14 Double Sculls pairing of Islay Brevet and Anna Smith beat Hereford Cathedral School.

Yasmin Howe led Ross to victory in the Women's J15 Single Scull beating her opponent from Stratford-upon-Avon.

Another all Herefordshire final saw the Ross duo of George Aubrey and Charlie Manning beat Hereford Cathedral School in the Open J17 Double sculls.

Ross beat Hereford RC in the Mixed J14 Coxed Quad with a winning team of Jessie Punn, Islay Brevet, Tom Clatworthy and Charlie Pope coxed by Anna Smith.

Katie Hermon and Emma Smith led Ross to victory in the Women's J13 Double Sculls while Niamh Gabb and Yasmin Howe were successful in the Women's J15 Double Sculls.

Hereford RC welcome new members from the age of 12 who want to row recreationally or competitively.

They run a Learn to Row event three times a year in spring, summer and autumn.
