The status report submitted by a sub-inspector of Sector-17 police station before the court of additional district and sessions judge Poonam R Joshi on Friday, gives different accounts to those made by the 19-year-old victim. In her plea before the high court in June, the girl had sought directions for an investigation by the National Investigation Agency (NIA) or the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in line with the Hadiya case. She had alleged that the Chandigarh police did not investigate the case properly.

On June 4, the police had received a message that the girl had been admitted to GMSH-16, alleging acid attack.

According to the allegations, the victim was on her way to Juvenile Court in Sector 25 that morning and when she reached near the rally ground in Sector 25, two boys on a black motorcycle came from behind and threw some acid type substance on her face.

Police’s submissions

The police however in the status report have claimed “as per the medical report the cornea is clear, no conjunctival congestion ocular movement with normal limit… no lesions on skin seen… head injury (no 1) is declared simple in nature.”

Moreover, in the record obtained from Indian Audit and Accounts Department, her name is different from what she had mentioned and there was a gap of three years in the birth date revealed by her and in the records.

Similarly, the investigation revealed that she had claimed she was going to juvenile court that day.

However, there was no summon issued to her for the said date and the case had been transferred to the Sector-43 district courts.

Her clothes had been sent to Central Forensic Science Laboratory, Sector 36, for chemical analysis and the report is pending.

Also, no liquid substance or any impression was found at the alleged spot of incident. The police have also told the court that 18 complaints had been submitted by her to Chandigarh police since June 2017.

According to the initial FIR, on the complaint of the victim, a case under Section 326 (B) (voluntarily causing grievous hurt by use of acid, etc) of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) was registered at Sector 11 police station.

During investigation, it came to the fore that she was also a rape victim, the report for which had been lodged at Sector 34 police station and the trial was going on.
