Simon Grayson has delivered a warning to former side Leeds United on LoveSport Radio, claiming QPR striker Nahki Wells can thrive off of the Elland Road atmosphere on Saturday afternoon.

Leeds take on Steve McClaren’s QPR in Yorkshire on Saturday afternoon, as the Whites look to leapfrog Norwich City and go top of the Championship table with a fourth consecutive league win.

Marcelo Bielsa’s men come into the match after three straight wins over Bristol City, Reading and Sheffield United, picking up three consecutive clean sheets along the way.

Grayson, who managed Leeds for just over three years before being sacked in 2012 after 169 games in charge, reckons Burnley loanee Wells could thrive off the hostile Elland Road atmosphere and put Leeds to the sword.

“Loftus Road is one of those ground where you’ve got to be on your game because of the atmosphere,” Grayson said. “Elland Road is exactly the same. Players can thrive off of these sorts of atmospheres.

“The likes of Nahki Wells will be looking to go and prove to people that he has the mentality to deal with the big occasions, and look to cause an upset. QPR will go there in good spirits.”

Wells, 28, joined QPR in the summer on loan from Premier League side Burnley and has netted three goals in 16 games as well as laying on two assists. Since his £5million move to Burnley (Mirror), he has managed just 10 appearances.

The Daily Mail claimed in the summer of 2017 that Leeds had enquired to sign Wells after losing Chris Wood to Burnley, but a move did not materialise. Now, he will be looking to show Leeds what they were missing.
