Sunderland desperately need a new striker in January.
Jerome Sinclair’s struggling performance for Sunderland against Walsall on Tuesday night has highlighted the Black Cats need for a new striker – and Leeds United ace Tyler Roberts would be perfect.
On loan from Watford, 22-year-old Sinclair has managed just two goals in 16 league and cup outings for Sunderland. Sinclair was subbed off in the second half to a chorus of boos from the Sunderland fans.
The former Liverpool striker is struggling to make an impression, with the 1-0 loss in the FA Cup second round to Walsall at home a disappointing night for all – especially the England Under-17 forward.
He was tipped for greatness during his teenage years but now Sinclair is failing to make the cut in the third tier of English football, and manager Jack Ross has to take action in January.
Indeed, Ross is aiming for promotion at the first attempt and so are Championship side Leeds United. At Elland Road, Kemar Roofe is on fire – scoring 10 goals in 15 league games.
But his place in the side is keeping out Wales international Tyler Roberts, who joined the Whites after an impressive first half of the 2017-18 season with League One side Walsall.
Now, Patrick Bamford is set to return to action for Leeds and is likely to replace Roberts on the Leeds bench against Bolton on Saturday. The former Chelsea striker scored a hat-trick for the Whites’ Under-23 side on Tuesday.
Roberts, who had a run in the side while Bamford and Roofe were injured and scored three goals, will be left on the sidelines and Sunderland simply have to take advantage of that situation.
Leeds, who spent £4million (Daily Mail) on Roberts in January, will be keen for him to continue his development and a loan to Sunderland would be the perfect move for all parties involved.
