Donald says Maja wants Sunderland stay amid Tottenham, Everton speculation

Sunderland owner Stewart Donald has revealed on Twitter that reported Tottenham Hotspur and Everton target Josh Maja has said that he wants to stay at the club.

Maja is out of contract at Sunderland at the end of the season and has been linked with a number of clubs in the January transfer window.

According to The Northern Echo, Everton, Tottenham, Southampton, Manchester City, Middlesbrough and Millwall all are interested in the 19-year-old forward.

Sunderland owner Donald, though, has stated on Twitter that the young forward wants to stay at the Stadium of Light beyond January.

Boost for Sunderland

Maja is one of the best young forwards in League One and is a key figure in Jack Ross’s Sunderland team.

Keeping hold of the teenager for the second half of the season is vital to the Black Cats’ chances of winning automatic promotion to the Championship.

According to WhoScored, the forward has made 16 starts and two substitute appearances in League for Sunderland so far this season, scoring 11 goals in the process.
