Getafe are chasing Champions League qualification after a superb season so far.
Leeds United aren’t exactly missing playmaker Samu Saiz right now, but he’s enjoying a strong start to life with Getafe.
The Whites are still moving ahead under Marcelo Bielsa, sitting top of the Championship table after last night’s win over Swansea City.
Having that extra creativity from Saiz would have been helpful, but he wanted a move back to Spain for personal reasons in the January transfer window, heading to Getafe on loan with a view to a permanent move.
Hopefully Saiz’s move is helping him on a personal level, and it may well pay dividends on the pitch too, as he has joined a Getafe side who are absolutely flying.
Saiz starred in Saturday’s 3-1 home win over Celta Vigo, and the win leaves Getafe fifth in the La Liga table, just two points off a Champions League place.
That’s a remarkable state of affairs for Jose Bordalas and his side, who finished eighth last season having only just returned to the top flight.
Saiz’s influence can now help Getafe qualify for Europe’s elite club competition for the first time in their history, which would justify his move for personal and professional reasons.
The 28-year-old should play a key role between now and the end of the season for Getafe, and he will be hoping to chase down Sevilla and achieve that Champions League dream – and seeing Leeds return to the Premier League may just cap it all off for the Spaniard.
