Gil Dias’s Europa League wonder-goal leaves Nottingham Forest fans stunned

Gil Dias failed to score a single Championship goal for Nottingham Forest but he is lighting up the Europa League with Olympiakos.

Nottingham Forest fans knew there was a player in there somewhere.

Gil Dias’s time on loan at the City Ground will likely to be forgotten, the Monaco winger joining a long list of mediocre imports who have failed to make any sort of a lasting impression on the two time European Cup winners.

But the Portuguese U21 international showed glimpses of talent during his time in the East Midlands. That Man of the Match performance, and sublime chip, in August’s 3-1 EFL Cup win against Newcastle United highlighted Dias’ quality – and why Forest had been quoted £17.5 million if they wanted to sign the winger on a permanent basis (the Telegraph).

That dazzling performance against Newcastle was little more than a false dawn, however. Dias failed to score another goal in Forest colours and was gone by the time February began, moving to Olympiakos instead after his loan spell at the City Ground was cut short.

But Dias has not waited long to show Forest what they could have had. In his third game for Olympiakos, he opened his account for the Greek giants with a barely believable volley in the 2-2 Europa League draw with Dinamo Kiev.

Yes Forest fans, this is the same player who produced that dreadful miss kick against Norwich.
