The Leeds United youngster was reportedly almost the victim of a clerical error by the Football Association.
Leeds United’s Mallik Wilks has been bang in form for loan side Doncaster Rovers this season.
The 20-year-old attacker has 11 goals and seven assists across all competitions for the League One outfit.
Many Leeds fans would’ve been interested in seeing how their Thorp Arch graduate fared against Premier League side Crystal Palace in the FA Cup today.
But Wilks, as it turns out, was suspended.
According to Doncaster Free Press, Wilks’s name was not on the list of suspended players sent out by the Football Assocation during the week, but two yellow cards in previous rounds meant that he was indeed ineligible.
He was ultimately omitted from the squad for today’s 2-0 defeat by the Eagles, and here’s how fans reacted to what looks like a clerical error from the FA.
Wilks’s two previous bookings would have been expunged had it been the quarter-final, and he would have been allowed to play.
He made his senior Leeds debut a little over two years ago in the shock FA Cup defeat at Sutton United during Garry Monk’s spell in charge.
