Leeds United defender Conor Shaughnessy is being slammed on Twitter by fans of his loan club.

The Irish centre-back, who left Leeds to join Hearts until the end of the season, had an afternoon to forget as the Jambos went down 2-1 at Motherwell today.

The 22-year-old, who managed 14 games across all competitions for the Whites’ senior side last season, posted an erratic showing on his return to the first XI, having been dropped in the Scottish Cup win over Auchinleck last week.

Here’s how the Leeds man’s performance was received by Hearts fans on Twitter:

Shaughnessy, who joined from Reading in 2016, showed plenty of promise last season and justified the faith shown in him by then-manager Thomas Christiansen.

But the Dane was sacked last February and Shaughnessy then struggled under Paul Heckingbottom, and appears to have no role to play under now-boss Marcelo Bielsa.

That being said, he is a good defender, as he proved on a number of occasions last season, but he must put this performance behind him and focus on having a brilliant end to the season with Hearts. Anything less and it’s difficult to see Bielsa having a change of heart this summer.
