The Southampton defender has improved drastically in recent months.
Southampton boss Ralph Hasenhüttl raved about Jan Bednarek, when speaking exclusively to the Southern Daily Echo, although he did suggest that he knew that the centre-back could give a lot more from his very first training session in charge at St Mary’s.
The 22-year-old joined the Saints from Lech Poznan in the summer of 2017, for a fee believed to be worth in region of £5 million, according to BBC Sport, and he has gone on to make 23 appearances in all competitions for the south coast club.
The Polish ace has really come into his own since Hasenhüttl took over as manager of Southampton, however, and he is showing what he is capable of on a consistent basis.
Hasenhüttl spoke to reporters about Bednarek’s fine form over the past couple of months, suggesting that the defender has been ‘amazing’ recently, as quoted by the Southern Daily Echo:
“I’ve seen him from the first day as a really good player. From the first training situation I had the feeling he could give us much more. From the moment I came the trust I put in him he’s paid back every minute he’s played. He’s been amazing. The saves he’s made sometimes have helped us to get a lot of points.”
Southampton are currently embroiled in a real relegation fight, and they will need Bednarek to be on his very best form between now and the end of the season, if they are to avoid the drop down to the Championship.
