Cardiff boss Neil Warnock explains how Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish has surprised him

Neil Warnock has expressed his surprise that Jack Grealish is still plying his trade for Aston Villa, while speaking to the Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on talkSPORT (22 March, 8:00am).

A gifted attacking midfielder who rose through the ranks at Villa, Grealish first exploded onto the scene during the reign of Tim Sherwood and is now starting to fulfil his vast potential in the Championship having put a litany of off-field issues behind him.

The 23-year-old looks increasingly mature on and off the pitch these days and scored his fourth goal of the Championship campaign against bitter rivals Birmingham City recently, netting the winner at St Andrews.

Villa did brilliantly to hang onto their homegrown talisman last summer when he attracted the interest of Tottenham Hotspur, according to the Mail.

And Cardiff City boss Warnock seems to believe it is only a matter of time before Grealish is playing Premier League football.

“The fitness of Grealish is important, he has missed a few games but you can’t your eyes off him,” said the 70-year-old, who came up against the play-maker last season as Cardiff earned promotion from the Championship.

“I am surprised he is not a Premier League player – even though we have had our run ins I do respect him, I think he is a fabulous player.”

According to the Mail, Tottenham are set to make a new approach for Grealish in the next few months and it remains to be seen whether Villa can hang on to him this time.
