Liverpool sent goalkeeper Loris Karius out on loan to Besiktas but he has struggled badly in Turkey.
Jurgen Klopp will block Besiktas’s attempts to send Loris Karius back to Liverpool before the end of his loan spell, as reported by the Mirror (22 March, page 56).
Karius looked set for a bright future at Anfield when he moved to Merseyside from Bundesliga outfit Mainz 05 in the summer of 2016 for a fee of £4.7 million (BBC).
But the German’s dream move quickly became a nightmare. Karius was dogged by a series of high-profile mistakes during his time at Liverpool and will go down in folklore for all the wrong reasons thanks to his Champions League final horror-show against Real Madrid.
Karius was quickly farmed out to Besiktas on a two-year loan deal but he has hardly rebuild his reputation in Turkey. A series of error-prone displays have seen the 25-year-old jeered by his own fans while manager Senol Gunes slammed Karius’s displays in brutal fashion (Sky Sports).
As a result, Besiktas want to send Karius back to Anfield but Klopp will refuse to play ball, given that the shot-stopper has no break clause in his contract.
Besiktas have the option to sign him permanently for £7.25 million but that looks very unlikely.
