Nahitan Nandez could be on his way to Elland Road with Championship hopefuls Leeds United reportedly keen on the Boca Juniors star.
This would be some statement.
According to Tuttomercatoweb, Leeds United are plotting an ambitious move to sign the Uruguayan international Nahitan Nandez this summer.
The snarling central midfielder who shone alongside Arsenal’s Lucas Torreira as Uruguay reached the World Cup quarter-finals, Nandez is plying his trade with Boca Juniors and is arguably the best player in Argentinian football.
He would not come cheap, with Serie A trio Bologna, Cagliari and Fiorentina also allegedly keen. According to Continental, broadcast on Closs AM (21 July, 6:00pm), Nandez has a £12 million release clause in his contract.
That would make him Leeds’ most expensive signing in 18 years. Needless to say, the chances are that Leeds would have to be promoted to the Premier League if they can a) afford to pay the fee required and b) lure Nandez to Elland Road.
But what a signing he would be. Nandez would add technique and tenacity to Marcelo Bielsa’s midfield while raising the standards all over the pitch.
No wonder Leeds fans have greeted these links with a huge amount of excitement. Justifiably so, too.
