Southampton fans react as Premier League fixture list announced with emojis by Saints Twitter account

Southampton have discovered their Premier League fixture fate as Thursday morning saw each of the 20 clubs find out when they would be playing each team over the course of the 2019-20 campaign.

For the Saints, the opening day of the new season will see them head north to take on Lancashire outfit Burnley at Turf Moor, the game taking place on the weekend of 10-11 August, in what is a bit of a deja vu.

The two sides met on the first day of the 2018-19 campaign at St Mary’s, and fans of both sides will no doubt be hoping for a different display and outcome, with that match ending in a goalless draw.

Southampton broke the fixture news their end in a creative manner on Twitter, each matchday – or indeed international break – represented by emojis:

That said, some Saints fans may not have exactly been in the mood to decipher images at 9 in the morning, so for all of the admin’s efforts – and it looks as though it took a long time in terms of planning and execution – it did have some detractors:
