Some Derby County fans want the Birmingham City manager, Garry Monk, to succeed Frank Lampard if the Rams boss leaves for Chelsea.

Lampard has been strongly tipped to replace Maurizio Sarri at Stamford Bridge, although Derby are said to be relaxed about the situation having yet to receive contact.

Meanwhile, Monk’s Birmingham future was thrown into doubt on Thursday, amid reports the 40-year-old’s relationship with the club’s board has grown strained.

Monk has previously managed Swansea City, Leeds United and Middlesbrough, with mixed success, but helped to keep Birmingham up in his first two months in charge, before steering them clear of relegation last term – against a backdrop of financial problems which led to a nine-point deduction.

F*** it. Gary Monk’s Derby County it is.

That being said…

Lampard spent the bulk of his playing career at Chelsea, where he won multiple honours and remains the club’s highest ever goalscorer.

But the 40-year-old only has one season in senior management under his belt, although that ended in a narrow play-off final defeat to Birmingham’s city rivals, Aston Villa.

Would Monk be a good appointment for Derby?
