The Saints brought the Mali international from Belgian outfit Standard to St Mary’s Stadium and the Premier League earlier this week.
New Southampton signing Moussa Djenepo has taken to Twitter with a message for the Saints fanbase as well as for those of Standard Liege, the club he left for the Premier League.
The 20-year-old winger, a Mali international, will officially become a Southampton player on Monday 1 July, subject to the relevant paperwork being completed, and has penned a four-year contract (official Southampton website).
Djenepo, who according to The Sun cost the Saints £14million, is Ralph Hasenhuttl’s first signing at St Mary’s Stadium, and arrives on the back of an impressive season for the Belgian club, scoring 11 goals en route to a third-placed league finish and Europa League qualification.
The attacker, who is set to play for his country in this summer’s Africa Cup of Nations, joined Standard from Malian club Yeelen Olympique in 2017, initially on loan but with an option to buy, which the Rouche took up (official Standard website).
Here is what Djenepo posted on Twitter as he officially bid farewell to the Belgian First Division and embarked on his Premier League adventure:
The tweet got a great reception from both sets of fans and the chairman of Standard Liege, Bruno Venanzi, had some very kind words for him too:
Southampton will get their Premier League season underway with a trip to Burnley on the weekend of 10 August.
