Premier League outfit Southampton reportedly want to raid Celtic yet again for Australian star Rogic – could David Turnbull be his replacement?
Southampton have all but missed out on David Turnbull with the Motherwell star expected to complete a £3 million move to Celtic.
But, as the old cliché goes, one door closed sees another open. And with the Sydney Morning Herald claiming last month that The Saints were hoping to sign Australian international Tom Rogic this summer, Turnbull’s move to Parkhead could perhaps give them renewed hope that a deal is indeed possible.
After all, the 19-year-old looks like a ready-made successor for Rogic in the number 10 role at Celtic. A natural goalscorer who thrives when playing just off the front, The Hoops have a real star of the future with Turnbull on board.
But could this see the end of Rogic in green and white? The Sydney Morning Herald reported that a Southampton side who have raided Celtic over the years for Virgil van Dijk, Stuart Armstrong and Victor Wanyama are keen to bring the skilful playmaker to St Mary’s.
Rogic will cost somewhere in the region of £20million – a fee that Celtic will surely be tempted to accept given that they have a number of other positions in need of strengthening.
Now, with Turnbull swapping Fir Park for Glasgow, this is the perfect time for Southampton to test Celtic’s resolve.
