Championship giants Leeds United reportedly want to sign Helder Costa, who has struggled for starts in the Premier League at Wolverhampton Wanderers.
Ivan Perisic might just have become central to Leeds United’s summer transfer plans.
Now, we don’t mean that a £30 million-rated winger with 82 caps for the Croatian national team is about to leave Inter Milan for Elland Road. But Perisic might hold the key to Leeds’ chances of bringing Helder Costa to West Yorkshire.
According to the Yorkshire Evening Post, Leeds have expressed a ‘firm interest’ in the Portuguese international Costa, who has found game time increasingly hard to come by at a club he joined from Benfica for a then-club record fee of £13 million.
Wolves are apparently open to offers. And they will surely be even more keen to cash in on Costa if Perisic makes a shock switch to Molineux.
According to FC Inter News, the former Dortmund and Wolfsburg winger has no future at Inter Milan with new manager Antonio Conte looking to sell.
Wolves are interested but, as it stands, Perisic is uncertain about a move to the Black Country. He understandably wants to remain at the very top level of European football and Wolves, ambitious project or not, will not be challenging for titles or playing Champions League football next season.
But if Wolves can tempt Perisic to follow in the footsteps of Rui Patricio, Joao Moutinho and co, this will surely push Costa in Leeds’ direction.
