Arsenal are reportedly holding talks with Brighton and Hove Albion defender Lewis Dunk but Leicester City allegedly lead the £30m chase.

Leicester City are confident of winning the race for Lewis Dunk although Arsenal are set to hold talks with the Brighton and Hove Albion captain, according to TEAMtalk.

Top quality centre-backs may be in short supply these days though Dunk has proven himself to be reliable and highly committed presence at the heart of Brighton’s backline during the last two Premier League seasons.

A natural-born leader, the 27-year-old is a Brighton boy through and through, yet even he must be tempted by the idea of taking a major step forward in his playing career.

Leicester see the one-time England international as a replacement for Harry Maguire, who looks increasingly likely to leave, and TEAMtalk believes they are confident of pulling off a £30 million swoop.

This is despite the fact that Arsenal are set to hold talks with Dunk and his representatives in the near future.

Why? Well, it is no secret that Arsenal coach Unai Emery will be forced to operate on a relative shoestring budget this summer. Goal claims that The Gunners have just £45 million to spend and it seems unlikely that they’d be willing, therefore, to meet Brighton’s eye-watering £30 million price-tag.

As far as Brighton are concerned, they would be loathe to lose their own ‘captain, leader, legend’ though the Seagulls do appear to have snared a replacement in Portsmouth’s Matt Clarke.
