Premier League duo Leicester City and Aston Villa are both reportedly keen on Luton Town’s Championship ace James Justin.
Luton Town’s head of recruitment Mike Harford has admitted to Sky Sports that James Justin could be sold this summer amid interest from Premier League pair Aston Villa and Leicester City.
The versatile full-back was one of the star players as The Hatters won the League One title last season, producing nine assists in all competitions to earn a place in the EFL Team of the Year.
But it remains to be seen whether Justin will stick around to play Championship football at Kenilworth Road. The Mirror (18 June, page 46) reported last week that Aston Villa had failed with a £7.5 million bid for the Luton-born defender.
Leicester, the Mirror adds, are now expected to press ahead with a £12 million offer as they look to blow Dean Smith’s side out of the water.
Though both Aston Villa and Leicester have been given hope by Harford’s typically honest assessment of this ongoing transfer saga.
“If it benefits us to sell James Justin, then James will be sold, but it’s a case of someone putting in the right bid,” Harford said, while stopping short of making clear how much the 21-year-old is worth.
“James is a real level-headed kid and if he does go, I believe he will choose the right football club that will be better for him and beneficial for him to enhance his career.”
As it stands, Aston Villa are more in need of a new left-back than a Leicester side who look set to keep hold of England international Ben Chilwell while tying Christian Fuchs down to a new contract.
Villa can call upon Neil Taylor while Kortney Hause is also capable of playing at left-back. But Justin, should he fulfil his vast potential, could represent a substantial upgrade on both.
