Derby fans react on Twitter to Everton loanee Kieran Dowell’s display against Bristol City

The Toffees midfielder, on loan at Pride Park, was widely panned by some Rams fans as he struggled against the Robins.

A number of Derby County fans have taken to Twitter to comment on Everton loanee Kieran Dowell’s performance in the 2-1 Championship loss to Bristol City at Pride Park on Tuesday night.

The Rams put in a lacklustre performance as they shipped two goals to the Robins by the half-time mark, ex-Rams striker Andreas Weimann opening the scoring on 16 minutes after turning goalkeeper Kelle Roos and slotting into an empty net.

Weimann was once again involved for the second on the stroke of half time, dummying Jack Hunt’s low cross and letting it reach Josh Brownhill, who duly slotted home to leave Phillip Cocu’s charges with a mountain to climb.

Derby improved in the second half and dominated possession but they could not find a breakthrough until five minutes from time, substitute Jack Marriott weighing in with a great individual curling effort, but it proved too little too late.

Dowell, who linked up with the Rams in the summer having previously had loan spells at Sheffield United and Nottingham Forest, struggled in the final third and appeared a spectator for large parts of the encounter.

As such, the Toffees academy graduate received criticism from some Derby fans on social media during and after the game:

Up next for Derby is Saturday’s early kickoff against West Bromwich Albion at Pride Park.
